A new perspective on remote work: Main factors

In the face of the lockdown we are experiencing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, more companies are joining in to completely change their business model to improve remote work activities.

Of course, large companies have been able to deal with various crisis situations. Each of these has been previously analyzed, and a protocol was established on what to do in case such a scenario occurred. However, a pandemic and what actions to take in response to it were probably not foreseen in any crisis plan.

79% of executives have indicated that their companies have undergone a business model change, according to the 2020 Dell Technologies Digital Transformation Index, with remote work being the main implementation.

According to research by Dell Technologies, around 89% of executives will strengthen their digital business in the coming years if their companies successfully deal with the pandemic situation.

Therefore, today we will see four main factors that must be taken into account for remote work in companies.

1. Participation and shared mission

Remote work has brought with it new challenges for employees, since the way they communicate and carry out work tasks is different from in-person work.

It is very important here to evaluate the roles of each member of the company to avoid inconveniences. However, it is in this situation that the employee must learn new tasks and not remain in just one area.

These new functions can be achieved thanks to all the information that the collaborator can find virtually.

2. Immediacy in the team

This factor has always been a requirement requested by every company. But in this situation of confinement, it is much more demanding to have the ability to immediately carry out functions on the part of collaborators.

To achieve this, appropriate methodologies must be used for a workplace. For example, “scrum”, this method has among its objectives: the speed of collaborators. It is a joint project with all members of the company to increase the value of productivity, sales, immediacy, among other goals set by the team.

Furthermore, since this is a virtual job, it is important to be able to set due dates for any pending tasks or projects. This will help ensure that they are met without the mistake of postponing them.

3. Risk plan

When the spread of Covid-19 began, there was no risk plan in place to deal with it. Not even large companies anticipated this situation.

This is why many companies today have decided to be more specific in assessing all types of risks or crises that may arise. One action they have taken is to assign a single person to take contingency measures if the company experiences a negative situation.

This assessment must be constant and, above all, there must be one person for each area, that is, if a company has eight areas, each of them must have a specialist to ensure the respective risk plan.

4. Adaptability

Now more than ever, companies consider this factor to be of transcendental importance. While it is true that this was already required in the past, today it is even more important, taking into account that we are in a digital era and work demands it.

It is known that a collaborator with this ability will be able to stand out from another during remote work. And this business model will probably continue, so it is expected that from now on all applicants can take adaptability as a main aspect for work.

These have been some factors that we can achieve after the context in which we live regarding a new business model with remote work in an organization.
